Li Bingbing New Year’s Health Resolutions

20091230_Li_Bingbing

By the time most people in the West read this it will already be 2010 in Beijing. So a very early Happy New Year from the fans at BingbingLi.com. We wish everyone a happy, safe, and healthy new year. And while we are talking about health according to one blogger on Sina.com.cn,  Miss Li Bingbing is apparently also making some news about her own New Years plans which will focus on being healthier this year. That means eating less red meats, sleeping more (actors in China are notorious workaholics and Miss Li is no exception) and studying Chinese medicine.

More can be read in Chinese at the link provided.

In closing it is still rather impressive how Miss Li’s actions have served as an example for others to follow. While many celebrities use their influence simply to promote themselves and their movies, Miss Li has been showing a modesty and selfless compassion when helping others and serving as a good example. Making these health choices public is a good step to inspiring others to do likewise which can only have a positive effect on people everywhere. It is Miss Li’s natural born leadership? We think so. (But then again we at Bingbingli.com may be a bit biased. ;)   ) In any case, have a Happy New Year. If more articles come along in the next twenty-four hours we will do our best to put it up. In the meantime have a happy and productive day.

Li Bingbing leading the way for China’s cool new green image

Li Bingbing at the COP15 Summit

According to TheMalaysianInsider.com, China’s got a new cool image as a promoter of green awareness.  A new catch phrase is hitting the streets amongst the youth: Jin tian ni di tan le ma? Which means: “Have you been ‘low-carbon’ today?” This phrase has become so popular that it is edging out the standard greeting, Ni hao ma? (“How are you?) What is interesting to note is what a profound impact the celebrities in the country are having in shaping the views of its citizens. Starting with the commercials for the Olympics which apparently started the green thinking, there has been a growing awareness amongst the Chinese population about the importance of environmental protection.

Below is a snippet of the article that mentions how Miss Li is leading the way for change:

So influential are such celebrities in China that they are increasingly becoming the frontmen in the country’s efforts to go green.

From endorsing solar panels and electric bikes to crooning love songs to the environment, Chinese stars are showing that green is the new cool in the world’s heaviest carbon-emitting country.

Leading the pack is film star Li Bingbing, who was recently crowned Best Actress at the prestigious Golden Horse Awards in Taiwan.

State media China Central Television appointed her as its “star journalist” for the international climate change summit held in Copenhagen earlier this month. She has since hit all the right green notes, successfully branding herself as China’s top “green celebrity”.

Not only does she insist on cycling and taking public transport, even though she has been offered a limousine, she also wears eco-friendly clothes, which she bought herself rather than getting them sponsored.

In addition, she blogs about her green lifestyle, talking about how she takes along her own toiletries for hotel stays and uses handkerchiefs instead of tissue paper.

She even sports an eco-friendly credit card that China claims is a world-first. The Shenzhen Development Bank has appointed her as the spokesman for its “green card”, which is made from biodegradable materials instead of plastic.

For sceptics who question what difference a small card could make, Li offers this statistic: ‘Last year, about two billion credit cards were issued — stacked up, they would be high enough to scale about eight Himalayan peaks.

“These cards are not biodegradable, so the damage they could do to the environment really makes one’s heart ache.”

Rivalling her in popularity as a green celebrity is actress Zhou Xun, who has been appointed as the ‘green fairy ambassador’ for the World Expo being held next year in Shanghai.

Zhou urges the Chinese to save water by minimising the amount they use for showers, and to buy more trees. This year, she spent 6,000 yuan (RM3,014) to plant 238 trees in Beijing to offset the amount of carbon dioxide she had emitted last year.

It is important to note — despite the struggles at the COP15 summit — how the Chinese people have still become mobilized to do their part to help protect the Earth. Also it is noteworthy to realize how much effort is continuing to be done by celebrities like Miss Li who are leading others by example and paving the way for environmental change.

Even if no legally-binding agreements have been reach to date it may be at least comforting for the West to note they are not alone in their understanding about the importance of protecting the environment.

2009 Feng Sheng poster

This motion picture, Feng Sheng (a.k.a. “The Message”)  has yet to be released in the West, however it has already made quite a splash in Asia. It is for her performance in this film that Miss Li Bingbing won the Best Actress Award at this year’s Golden Horse Awards in Taiwan. These pictures were gleaned from Sina.com.cn. Given how well it has done in Asia it should make one pause as to the reasons why this movie’s release has been delayed elsewhere. More pictures can be seen in the gallery. Enjoy.

A blogger on Sina.com.cn recently wrote about Miss Li Bingbing who visited South Korea a while ago as a cultural ambassador between the two nations of China and South Korea. As a result her activities were aimed at setting a good example for others but also to help raise money for the children who were affected by the Chinese Earthquake last year. These pictures are in keeping with her general style which has exuded a great deal of charm, beauty and class. More pictures are in the gallery section. Enjoy.

It is almost something out of a movie only it is real: people working together to make a difference. According to Sina.com.cn, the first leg of Miss Li Bingbing’s trip to Copenhagen began with her visit to the city’s offshore power plant (Middelgrunden Off-Shore Wind Farm). The temperatures were below zero and Miss Li could feel the strong force of the wind power plant’s windmills.

Miss Li and her party took a ferry from Copenhagen New Pier to the sea. The trip took about an hour to get to the plant. As the weather was rather windy after the a bout of rain all the people present could feel the strong force of the plant’s windmills. “According to today’s cold experience, here is indeed the best place to build a wind power plant, ” Miss Li said. “wind power [works better than] solar power [with an strategically appointed location] can run 24 hours a day and it is completely clean energy.”

Built in 2001 the Copenhagen wind power plant is one of four major offshore wind farms. It is located on the sea a few kilometers away from downtown Copenhagen. Its fans are connected through underwater cables three to five kilometers away to the Ammar (Amager) power plants which has the transformer. At this time there are twenty 2,000 Kilowatt windmills offshore which supply 25% of Copenhagen’s electricity. With its advanced wind power technology Copenhagen recently announced that it will be the world’s first “zero carbon” city by 2050. By 2030, the Danish wind power system could provide half of the country’s electricity needs.

The entire morning was spent at the wind power plant and after leaving around 2pm, Miss Li is quoted as saying, “This is indeed a very memorable experience.” NetEase and Miss Li were on the same boat as 2007 Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Stephen H Schneider who authored the IPCC’s “Climate Change 2007″ report. In the following days Miss Li worked with NetEase and other online friends to help share what she saw and heard in Copenhagen.

When one thinks about how much good such technology is already doing in Copenhagen it makes a great deal of sense that the Climate Change Summit would be held there. It is also tremendously impressive and inspiring to know that there are people in the world community like Miss Li who are actively searching for solutions to help the world at large. It should give us all pause to realize that if we put our minds together we can find solutions to help protect the world.

Li Bingbing at the Award Ceremony for Former President Clinton

Friday, December 18th, 2009

20091218_LiBingbing_Copenhagen

According to this post found on Sina.com.cn, Miss Li Bingbing was one of the presenters at the Award Ceremony for Former President Bill Clinton held yesterday, December 17th, 2009. That night ushered in Winter’s first snow for the city of Copenhagen and the temperature dropped to minus seven degrees Celsius. However the lights out ceremony still drew more than a million people in attendance. Due to the uncertainty of security issues caused by the snow, both President Bill Clinton and United Nation Secretary General,  Ban Ki-moon, arrived at the scene but were unable to accept the awards in person.

Given the level of enthusiasm and celebration it is reported that it was easy for Miss Li to forget about the cold weather. “It reminds me [of being] in Beijing in March at this year’s “Earth Hour…” she is quoted as saying. While five children representing the five continents were brought in — each with one of the shoulin lanterns — there were thousands of children whom have expressed their good wishes to the politicians whom have participated in this Climate Change conference. Miss Li was invited to read a special blessing from the Chinese children. It goes like this: “The Earth is our common home. We love our green home.”
