Li Bingbing, Andy Lau and Dong Xuan donate funds for drought relief

Friday, March 26th, 2010

According to Sina.com.cn, Li Bingbing, Andy Lau and Dong Xuan — along with other celebrities moved into action when they heard about the drought situation that is currently affecting the south west areas of China. At first the thought was to help by donating bottled water but then after some consideration the funds were donated to the China Red Cross to help the organization with its bottled water project.

Andy Lau

When Andy Lau found out about the problem he contacted the director, Feng Xiaogang, to donate 200,000. According to Feng Xiaogang upon hearing the news the actor immediately stopped work as he has been involved in earlier relief efforts and knows that there is no time to spare in such situations.

Li Bingbing

To paraphrase Miss Li’s involvement (errors and omissions are the sole fault of this website):  it was suggested that iced bottle water to be sent to the drought-stricken areas, but after some discussion, they believed it was a more realistic to focus on the areas and maintain communication with the Red Cross to better understand the specific uses of the donations.

Li Bingbing said: “I was in Shanghai filming, and learned through  the press that the disaster is very serious in Yunnan, Guizhou, and other places which rarely suffered drought, and have been concerned about and would like to do something for the people in the disaster areas. I happened to be at the event of Hong Kong-Asia Film Festival and spoke with  director Feng Xiaogang — he and some friends launched a call for contributions for bottled water. I asked my co-workers to donate money to the China Red Cross Foundation bottled water project, hoping to make some modest means for the people of disaster areas and also hope that more friends can be concerned that the Yunnan-Guizhou disaster, to lend a helping hand! ”

At the same time, Li Bingbing also called on all concerned about environmental protection in response to March 27 “Global turn off the lights for one hour” activities.”

For some reason it seems verifying that celebrities actually make the donations they claim is important in China. As a result the following pictures of their donations were posted online.
