Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, along with Chinese actress and project ambassador Li Bingbing, attended the first anniversary of the Million Forest campaign in Shanghai on Tuesday (July 27), QQ.com reports.

The project is organized by the Climate Group, China Green Foundation and United Nations Environment Programme. The two celebrities also presented awards for the outstanding partners of the Million Forest campaign to three companies: Shenzhen Development Bank, China UnionPay and Ping An.

The campaign aims to plant millions of sea buckthorn trees in northwest China to help improve the ecological environment and benefit the region and local people environmentally and economically.

In China the new “Karate Kid” movie is known as “Kung-Fu Dreams” — which quite honestly makes a lot more sense especially if you are going to market it to a Chinese audience. Showing her support for her friend Jackie Chan, Miss Li was present at the event to help promote the film. After wrapping up production on her latest film, Snow and the Secret Fan, Miss Li Bingbing made a special trip to Shanghai helped in the project to plant one million evergreen trees. This is part of the initiative to plant one million evergreens to create the Green Great Wall of threes that will help protect the environment. These trees will be planted in Northern China and will help fight against global warming.

According to a recent video on sina.com.cn, ( which dubbed this story, “A real life beauty and the beast”) Li Bingbing spent some time working on her various charities after shooting the film, Snow and the Secret Fan. In this video she first approaches the cardboard box where the tiger cub is with a little caution. But after the cub is tatken out of the box it proves to be a very fun experience for the actress as she holds the cub.

At 8:30PM on March 27th, 2010, Earth Hour takes place. Throughout the world people are encouraged to turn off their lights for an hour. Miss Li Bingbing was at the Beijing Palace Museum to celebrate this event which was also celebrated on the Empire State Building in New York, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Sydney Opera House in Australia, as well as other prominent locations throughout the world. Known as China’s “Environmental Protection Business Card”, Miss Li was present wearing a white windbreaker along with the thousands of spectators who were on hand to witness the lights out event.

According to the article written on Sina.com.cn, this is the fourth consecutive year in which this event has been celebrated and is hosted by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWFN).  People throughout are encouraged to participate as over an estimated 6,000 cities are involved. To paraphrase Miss Li’s comments on the matter: [the] “lights out for an hour” activities, while it will not solve all problems, [it will hopefully] increase awareness of environmental protection. As long as we can start from [there], the human living environment will certainly be improved, [and a]  green earth would be more viable.”
