Casting rumors continue as Li Bingbing expresses pleasant surprise about Venice

According to Sina.com.cn, Miss Li Bingbing was interviewed regarding a few topics related to casting and her new film, Detective Dee. In respect to the most recent rumors and speculations regarding the casting of the new film, “Fugative,” Miss Li is apparently still awaiting news regarding the casting. So at this time things may still be in the works regarding the casting of that film.  Her most recently to-be-released film, “Detective Dee” is apparently the only Chinese film to be nominated at the 67th Venice Film Festival. According to the article, Miss Li expressed that she was very surprised and pleased by the news. When pressed further as to the prospects of Miss Li winning a Best Actress award, she proved to be very modest (and tactful) in her response: she mentioned she would be “very happy”, but also that if she did win she would be happy that the award would help promote Chinese films around the world.

Director Feng Xiaogang’s latest film “Aftershock” will launch on the big screen on Thursday (July 22). The production company, Huayi Brothers, told potential viewers that they should arrive at screenings early so as not to miss the extended trailer of the suspense film “Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame” before “Aftershock”.

Directed by Hong Kong filmmaker Tsui Hark, the film “Detective Dee” stars Andy Lau, Carina Lau and Li Bingbing.

In addition, Huayi Brothers also said that “Detective Dee” is scheduled to open in cinemas on September 29.

According to a report by the Oriental Morning Post, “Detective Dee” is another heavyweight work produced by Huayi Brothers after this summer’s “Aftershock”. It was sold to an impressive 11 markets in 3 days at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

The production company released a trailer last month and offered a preview of the plot for the first time. However, the CEO of Huayi Brothers, Wang Zhonglei, said that director Tsui Hark and screenwriter Chen Kuo-Fu have created a Tang empire which is far beyond anyone’s imagination.

An new film by Tsui Hark called, “Di Renjie of the Heavenly Empire” has released new stills featuring Di Renjie (Andy Lau) and Shangguan Seiji (Li Bingbing) and Empress Wu (Carina Lau). According to Sina.com.cn, Tsui Hark has tekn three years to prepare for this film as it marks his return to the martial arts genre. This is the first time that Andy Lau has been in a Tsui Hark film since “The House of Flying Daggers.” In this movie still Die Renjie has just been released from prison. The film is currently in post-production and should be released next year in 2010.
